Dentist in Manitoba Penalized for Giving Insurance Company False Information
According to CBC, a dentist in Manitoba received disciplinary action for providing a patient’s insurance company with inaccurate treatment information.
The dates of treatment and the fees were among the information that was changed. The Manitoba Dental Association (MDA) convened an inquiry panel following the insurance company’s complaint against the dentist.
The dentist was hit with a $10,000 fine after the MDA disclosed the reasons behind their choice, which they said were made to help the patient obtain dental benefits of “greater payment or reimbursement, and to make non-covered procedures appear to be covered.”
The dental work was billed to the insurer the following year rather than in the current year upon the renewal of the policy.
