Interest Coverage Ratio :1 Treatments Affirming Outcomes Insurance Now
The bill would mandate insurance coverage for treatments that reverse gender affirming outcomes.
A bill to force insurance companies to pay for transgender patients who wish to reverse treatments has been introduced by a Republican state lawmaker.
The Legislature decided to forbid gender-confirming surgery on minors two years ago, even in cases where parents gave their approval.
A different bill, though, that sought to accomplish the same thing with hormone treatments, was not approved.
Sen. Janae Shamp, who introduced SB 1511, claimed that insurance companies would not pay doctors to provide reversal treatments.
A portion of the issue, according to her, is the absence of medical billing codes.

Not even codes have been set up to enable diagnosis. In the field of medicine, that is unprecedented. Thus, it implies that we have political ideologies. steering it. And that needs to end,” remarked Shamp.
In addition, the bill mandates that physicians, hospitals, or other organizations that offer transitional care “provide or pay for the performance of gender DE transition procedures.”
There are various reasons why people receive “DE transition” care, such as not having enough social support or not being happy with their medical care.
Committee hearings for the bill have not yet been scheduled.
