Significant increase in cars without insurance: Coquitlam Regional Police
Significant Synonym :1 Cars Without Insurance Coquitlam Now
The COQUITLAM RCMP reported on Friday that there is a noticeable increase in the number of cars without insurance.
24 tickets for driving without insurance have been issued by the Coquitlam RCMP since the year 2024 began. Compared to January 2023, when there were 11 infraction tickets for the whole month, there has been a significant increase. January is only 18 days old, so this represents a 46% increase.
Police have observed a consistent rise in the number of uninsured vehicles on the road over the course of the last year. Licence plate decals were no longer required on vehicles and were discontinued by ICBC on May 1, 2022.
Staff-Sgt. Mark McCutcheon, the Traffic Services Commander for the Coquitlam RCMP, stated, “When our officers stop vehicles for no insurance, drivers often say that they forgot or didn’t realize because they don’t have the decal reminder on their vehicle anymore.” “We firmly advise drivers to confirm that their cars are adequately insured before departing.”
Driving without insurance carries a $598 fine and may require towing of the car. If the driver is not insured and the vehicle is involved in an accident, they risk not only receiving a violation ticket but also being sued or held financially responsible for any damages.
