IPOH: After being tricked into participating in a fictitious online investment scheme, an insurance agent lost RM333,600.

According to Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the chief of police in Perak, the 46-year-old man from Taman Pari claimed to have met “Eva” on Facebook on October 15.

The victim was tricked into investing by the woman, who is allegedly an administrator for a WhatsApp group, using the app “Bain Online.”

In a statement last night, he said, “The victim made 12 transactions amounting to RM333,600 to five bank accounts between Oct. 19 and Dec. 12.”

The victim didn’t realize he had been duped until Eva demanded a commission payment of RM57,400 in order to for him to take the profit from his investment.

The victim then filed a police report on December 19, according to Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, who also stated that the case was being looked into in accordance with Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Additionally, he cautioned the public to avoid falling for investment offers on social media that make extravagant returns, particularly when they come from financial or investment applications that have not been authorized by the Security Commissions or Bank Negara Malaysia.
