For Albertans, it was an expensive year in terms of insurance.
The Insurance Bureau of Canada reports that damages from wind, hail, wildfires, and floods totaled more than $330 million. This includes the $100 million used to replace and repair cars after floods and hailstorms.
According to the IBC, 2023 is currently ranked as the fourth-worst year in Canada for insured losses, with severe weather causing $3.1 billion in damages nationwide.
In Alberta, severe weather has resulted in insured losses exceeding $4 billion since 2020, with over $500 million going toward insurance claims for vehicles that have been damaged.
