The insurance bureau has listed the ten most costly years in Canada for weather-related natural disasters.

Although not the worst, last year is ranked in the top five worst years ever for insured damage from extreme weather events, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC).
The Atlantic Canada cold snap, the spring ice storms in Ontario and Quebec, the Tantallon, Newfoundland, wildfire, flooding in Nova Scotia, the summer storms in the Prairies, the Winnipeg hailstorm, the severe summer storms in Ontario, the wildfires in the Okanagan and Shuswap,
British Columbia, and the wildfires in the Hay River, Northwest Territories are among the noteworthy severe weather events that occurred in 2018.
The top weather story for 2023 according to Environment Canada was the record number of wildfires.
These ten years rank highest among Canadian natural disaster costs, adjusted for insurance payouts for 2022 inflation.
1. $5.96 billion in 2016.
