According to a recent study, Toronto is the safest city in Canada, with the fewest crimes committed per 100,000 residents.

Money.ca analysts examined data on burglary, robbery, arson, and drunk driving in a number of Canadian cities to determine which areas were least affected by these crimes. They used data from the Canadian Crime Index to determine how frequently each offense occurred.

Toronto was the least crime-prone city, ranking first with 286.9 offenses per 100,000 residents. With 150.8 cases of breaking and entering per 100,000 residents in 2021, it had the lowest rate of such incidents. It is also one of the top ten cities with the lowest rates of arson and drunk driving.

After recording 301 offenses per 100,000 residents, Quebec emerged as the second safest city in Canada to live in. With just 12.2 robbery violations in 2021, it had the fewest robbery cases nationwide. Furthermore, its rate of burglaries is the second lowest, only surpassed by Toronto with 161.2 cases.

Ottawa-Gatineau, Quebec, comes in third with 318.8 offenses per 100,000 residents. Additionally, the area is in the top 10 cities with the lowest rates of robberies and break-ins.

In 2021, Sherbrooke recorded 169.7 incidences of breaking and entering and 16.6 cases of robbery. In 2021, Ottawa-Gatineau, ON, recorded the third fewest incidents of driving while intoxicated (69.6), and had a relatively low number of arson cases (9.9).

Insurance premiums may be impacted by crime rates.

A Money.ca representative provided insights into the study’s significance in an e-mailed news release.

“An examination of the rates of arson, robbery, burglary, and driving under the influence in each area provides valuable insights into the general crime statistics in Canadian cities, which primarily impact homeowners and families,” the individual stated.

“This study also identifies the regions with possibly lower insurance rates, or It’s possible that locals won’t be as likely to get more insurance to guard against these incidents.
