General Motors Insurance is the new name for OnStar Insurance under GM Financial.

With plans for market expansion, GM Financial announced earlier this week that it is rebranding its OnStar Insurance to General Motors Insurance.
According to GM Financial, the GM Insurance division transitioned from an agency model to a full-stack carrier in 2023. According to the company, the change makes GM Insurance “even better equipped to make an impact on the insurance industry and drive positive innovations for customers.”
“We will be able to better reach GM customers at significant points in the vehicle ownership life cycle and provide an auto insurance product that is safer, smarter, and more personalized as a result of switching to the GM Insurance name and branding,” stated Andrew.

EVP at GM Financial and president of GM Insurance, Rose, in a statement. “We can achieve even more enterprise-wide synergies by shifting to GM Insurance, which also creates stronger alignment with General Motors’ core strategies and operations.”
Currently offering OEM [original equipment manufacturer] auto insurance in Arizona, Texas, and Illinois, GM Insurance anticipates growing by 2024.
In order to personalize insurance rates for each customer based on their driving habits and usage of the car’s safety features, GM introduced OnStar Insurance in late November 2020.
This was accomplished by gathering information on driving habits such as abrupt braking and acceleration.
