January 11 – The Sports Business Journal announced on Thursday that Farmers Insurance, whose contract expires in 2026, will no longer sponsor the PGA Tour event at Torrey Pines in San Diego.

The company has been the title sponsor since 2010 but seems to be pulling out of the golf business. Rickie Fowler informed Golf week last week that he had been informed by Farmers that his sponsorship deal would not be renewed after it had expired.

Former San Diego Open competitor Andy Williams served as the tournament’s celebrity host from 1968 until 1988. Before Farmers Insurance took over, a number of businesses, including Shearson Lehman and Buick, served as title sponsors.
