TTAWA — Prior to a formal announcement set for Monday morning, government officials stated that the new federal dental insurance plan will be phased in gradually over the course of 2024, with the first claims probably being processed in May.

According to officials in a briefing given to The Canadian Press under condition of anonymity, applications are anticipated to open as early as next week, beginning with seniors who meet the eligibility requirements over the age of 87. However, it will take months before they can begin to receive benefits.
In exchange for the opposition party’s support on crucial votes, the Liberals and New Democrats reached a supply-and-confidence agreement that includes the insurance plan.
Under the terms of the agreement, dental benefits would be provided directly to Canadians with low and middle incomes who do not have private insurance.

Over the course of the year, eligibility will progressively increase to cover all eligible seniors over 65 by May 2024, followed by children under 18 and individuals with disabilities by June.
It is anticipated that the first programme enrol-lees will be eligible to begin claiming dental services in May. By 2025, the government hopes to have opened up the programme to all eligible Canadians.
Phased Array:
Approximately nine million people will be able to access the programme once it is fully expanded, making it the biggest social programme run by the government. Over the first five years, $13 billion is the estimated cost.
