Market enrollment for health insurance in Maryland is at an all-time high.
Time In Maryland : Experienced a 17 Percent Increase
Baltimore — This year, more Marylanders than ever before are obtaining health insurance through Maryland Health Connection, the state-run insurance exchange colloquially referred to as “Obamacare.”
According to a press release from the Maryland Health Connection, the Health Connection experienced a 17 percent increase during November’s open enrollment,
Largely due to the fact that Medicaid ceased automatically re-enrolling individuals each year (as required by a federal government policy from the COVID-era).
Marylanders are now required to reaffirm their Medicaid eligibility annually. According to the Health Connection, those who were no longer eligible for Medicaid accounted for nearly half of the new enrollments.
The majority of them qualified for COVID-related federal tax credits, which reduced their out-of-pocket expenses even though they did not receive Medicaid.
According to the Health Connection, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 will keep those tax credits in place until 2025.
Maryland Time
Young adults’ health insurance premiums are lowered by an average of $450 annually thanks to the special financial assistance, and the Maryland General Assembly voted last year to extend the program through 2025.
The Health Connection claimed that more than 50,000 people were eligible for that financial assistance, making it “the only one of its type in the country.”
Compared to the previous year, there was a 64% increase in new enrollments and a 14% increase in dental plan enrollment. Enrollment in the Health Connection’s plans increased to 213,895 Marylanders overall this year from 182,166 the previous year.
The achievement was honored by state health officials, and Maryland Secretary of Health Dr. Laura

The impressive increase in Maryland Health Connection’s overall enrollment shows that when we work together, we can achieve more than anticipated and help Marylanders obtain affordable health coverage.
This year, The Health Connection also started offering vision plans.
